To Try Men’s Souls by Newt Gingrich and William Forstchen

In the Introduction of the book Newt writes that this is a part of history, a miracle if you will that made America possible.  The miracle he is refering to is the Christmas Day campaign of 1776 and General George Washington.  This was a campaign of extraordinary heroism, improbable good fortune, and involving a series of events that led George Washington and others to conclude that the outcome was a miracle indicating Divine Providence was on their side.

Recent years have seen churches cater to individual wants.  There is a growing divide between Christianity and post-modernism and is generating tension and leading some churches to compromise the very principles upon which Christianity began.  The problem with self-orientated faith is that it loses the very standards of behavior and community that make Christianity unique.
